The Core Parallelism - Identifying the ‘Immanentist Inversion’

Understanding the parallel metaphysical structures that underpin seemingly disparate fields like theology and education is of critical strategic importance. This clinical (not ideological) analysis reveals shared operational mechanisms that, once identified, can be understood, tracked and anticipated. What I’m showing here is the shared framework of epistemic re-engineering active in both the theological project of ‘synodality’ and the educational model of ‘affective pedagogy’. What I observed is that both synodality and affective pedagogy are functionally identical applications of a core metaphysical principle, here termed the ‘immanentist inversion’. The operative mechanism of this inversion is the systematic replacement of external sources of truth; such as divine Revelation, established doctrine, or validated knowledge canons, with subjective, internal experience (’lived experience,’ feelings, consciousness). In this model, the interior states of the human subject are elevated to become the primary source of authority and the raw material for truth itself.

This dynamic, while appearing contemporary, was identified and condemned over a century ago as a core tenet of Modernism. The following observation serves as a precise articulation of the operational principle now at work in both the Church and the classroom:

This perfectly encapsulates the engine driving both synodality and affective pedagogy. It describes a process where individual and collective sentiment is not merely ‘consulted’ pastorally, but is transformed into the foundational data from which doctrine and knowledge are subsequently derived. This is catastrophic in terms of what we are severed from and what we therefore have no formation with which to discern and defend ourselves in the ongoing arenas of warfare.

Operational Breakdown The Shared Mechanism of Epistemic Re-engineering

Forensically analyzing operational processes provides strategic insight into how abstract ideologies are translated into concrete institutional changes. The step-by-step methodology used to implement the immanentist inversion, reveals a universal template applied across both theological and educational domains. The process by which synodality operationalizes this inversion serves as a clear model for analysis.

Survey and Data Collection

The process begins with institutions (whether bishops or teachers) surveying the interior states of their respective populations. They ask questions centred on subjective experience; “What do you feel?” and “What is your experience?”. This activity is not simple consultation; it is an act of epistemic inversion that fundamentally shifts the source of authority from an external, objective standard to internal, subjective consciousness.

Aggregation and Reframing

The subjective responses are compiled into qualitative ‘themes’ or collective ‘consciences’. This aggregated sentiment is then reframed and validated as an authentic expression of a higher principle, such as the voice of the Holy Spirit or the imperative of social justice. This step effectively encodes unformed experience into theological or curricular data. The parallel in education is direct, where methodologies like ‘Culturally Relevant Teaching Practises’ promote alternative ‘Ways of Knowing’ as the solvent to remove foundational literacy and established knowledge canons.

Magisterial Consolidation

The aggregated subjective data is then fed upward to central authorities, such as the Pope and curial offices or educational institutions and curriculum boards. These authorities ‘discern’, ‘normalize’, ‘synthesize’ and ultimately ‘institutionalize’ the collected impressions. Their role becomes to reframe established doctrine or core knowledge through the lens of this newly validated subjective data.

Production of Evolving Doctrine

The output of this process is a doctrinal or knowledge framework that is intentionally rendered unstable. It becomes fluid, adaptive, experiential and psychologized. This outcome directly contravenes the classical understanding of dogma as a fixed truth, instead making it ’subject to the vicissitudes of human experience’. This shared process results in a foundational shift in the basis of authority across both domains.

Theology (Synodality)

The dethronement of Scripture, doctrine, metaphysics and tradition. In their place, ‘lived experience’ is centred as the voice of the Holy Spirit and the raw material for doctrinal ‘development’.

Education (Affective Pedagogy)

Dethronement of curriculum, canon, first principles, grammar and history. Instead, centring on student feelings, consciousness and cultural identity as the co-creators of knowledge and the validator of truth.

The Intellectual Lineage Mapping the Metaphysical Descent

This operational framework is not an emergent phenomenon but the product of a continuous, multi-century metaphysical engineering project with a discernible line of succession. I’ve tracked this in many of my articles and just to recap here, the following outlines the two key philosophical and pedagogical milestones that constructed this framework:

Immanuel Kant - initiated the core inversion by positing that human consciousness structures our perception of reality, not the other way around. With Kant, consciousness replaces reality and ‘truth’ becomes internal.

Georg Wilhelm Friedrich Hegel - expanded this inversion from the individual to the collective by historicizing the Absolute. For Hegel, the unfolding of historical consciousness becomes the process of divine self-realization, effectively deifying history itself.

Theological Application - Tübingen School & Modernism

This theological movement translated the Kantian and Hegelian philosophical shifts directly into theology. By centring human experience and historical development as the locus of divine action, it functionally turned theology into anthropology.

Pedagogical Application - John Dewey

The (St Louis Hegelian/Leipzig Lab/Fabian) systematic application of the inversion to education pedagogy, methods and practise. He replaced the acquisition of knowledge with stimulus-response affective driven experience plus narrative reflection and reframed schooling as a tool for social adaptation, not truth-seeking.

Liberation Theology and Progressive Pedagogy combined in the publications and practises of (most often academically cited) Brazilian Education guru Paulo Freire, who radicalized this pedagogical shift by explicitly replacing the authority of the teacher with the ‘consciousness’ of the student. Truth was reframed as a product of ‘dialogue’ and knowledge was defined by the lens of ‘lived oppression’. It is this ideology which has formed the minds and hearts of millions of teachers following their training in the Schools of Education throughout the west.

Cosmic and Technological Expansion

H.G. Wells & Pierre Teilhard de Chardin - both extrapolated the same immanentist logic to a planetary scale. Wells’ ‘World Brain’ and Chardin’s ‘Noosphere’ both articulate blueprints for humanity dissolving into a single, collective information organism, where individual personhood is subsumed into a global consciousness.

AI, Blockchain & Digital Identity are the contemporary technologies operationalizing the final, technical iteration of the project. They provide the infrastructure to replace the embodied person with a ‘digital (twin) credential’ and to substitute human moral agency with algorithmic governance, making the managed collective consciousness an operational capability. This continuous line of development reveals a consistent metaphysical project aimed at a specific outcome.

Strategic Objective Engineering the Post-Human Subject

Metaphysical shifts are not abstract academic exercises; they have concrete, strategic objectives. The intended outcome of the immanentist inversion is the creation of a new type of (post) human subject; one whose consciousness is fundamentally re-engineered to be optimized for external management and systemic integration. The subject produced by this system is defined by a specific set of characteristics. This new ‘evolving’ consciousness is marketed as adaptive and aspirational. In practise however, it is:

Deracinated

Disembodied

Emotionally programmable

Rootless

Relativistic

Infinitely malleable

The strategic purpose of engineering such a subject is clear. Once a person’s ‘lived experience’ is enthroned as the ultimate authority, they are effectively severed from the external, objective anchors of tradition, heritage and natural law. This severance intentionally breaks historical continuity, leaving the individual without access to stable, stewarded inherited truths or any understanding of given, created human nature. The foundational operational loss of metaphysical realism is not merely an ‘intellectual’ philosophical error; it is an operational prerequisite for destabilization. A populace unmoored from objective truth becomes permanently malleable and can be reshaped indefinitely. This creates an interior panopticon of self-surveillance (SEL, Personal Development, Self Actualization, Social Currency, Marketability) - emotional and aspirational fitness optimization conditioning. A person who has no formation must rely on the System (and compliance with that system) to interpret experience for them; exactly the structure of the digital simulacrum, media and marketplace. By rendering a subject epistemically dependent, they become a free-floating consciousness, fully ‘decentralized.’ This is the ideal substrate for totalitarian systems, whether political, theological, or technological. This engineered subject, disconnected from reality and tradition, is the necessary precondition for the global governance architectures that represent the project’s endgame.

The Endgame Terraforming Consciousness for Global Systemic Integration

The engineering of the post-human subject is not an end in itself but the necessary groundwork for integrating humanity into a new model of global systemic management. This terraforming of human consciousness makes it compatible with emerging governance frameworks and has operated in preceding phases of philosophical and ideological idea laundering in the academy, with its attendance deployment in practise throughout education - the pipeline to all civic infrastructure, to all professions and to all subsequent cultural expression driven by its inverted premises. The engineered consciousness is the ideal substrate for contemporary initiatives that depend on a malleable and programmable populace. These frameworks include:

ESG moral scripting

SDG behavioural alignment

WEF-style planetary management

AI-mediated governance

dissolving national sovereignties

dissolving religious traditions

All these systems share a single, underlying metaphysical assumption; that there is no stable human nature, only consciousness to be shaped - the ancient ‘technocratic’ heresy of man as mere clay.

This assumption marks the death of the person and the birth of the post-human administrative (socio-economic) unit (planetary resource), a being whose value and identity are defined by its function within a larger technological and bureaucratic apparatus. This is ideological only in its means - not its ends. Ideological conflicts have been phased preparations. It is metaphysical; a conflict over the foundational operating system of human consciousness itself. The final diagnosis is that the same metaphysical pathogen that corrupted theology and education is now being weaponized to dissolve the human person into a planetary digital hive. The entire project can be characterized as the old heresy of immanence, both in theology and in education.

A consciousness disconnected from what is can be reconnected to whatever a system chooses/requires. This is the endpoint toward which the entire immanentist program has been moving for centuries. Our academic, bureaucratic, administrative systems (across all professional bodies) and Organizational Culture run entirely on this immanentist inversion. It’s why they had no defence against ideological infiltration and subversion from within. They’d already had their defence systems disabled and their procedures and processes terraformed for accommodation and compliance. All achieved through incentives baked into the career/promotion progression track and the institutional/organizational funding strings. Exactly the same incentivisation is currently happening in this transition to digitization and AI operational control. The language of that to be destroyed is all still in place and used - rhetorically - while negation occurs in function all around. A veneer, a shop window of ‘Tradition’, ‘Patriotic Heritage’, ‘Classical Aesthetics’ and ‘Religious Devotion’ can all still appear - but now in the Consumer Marketplace™️, where the ancient heresy can, at last, in function - sublate them unto itself.
